Description

Organic compound, helate complex of trivalent iron, alkaline metal sodium and ethylenediaminetetraacetatic acid (EDTA). Doesn't form water hydrates.

Chemical equation:

Na2H2(C10H12N2O8) + FeCl3 + 2NaOH = Na[Fe(C10H12N2O8)] + 3NaCl + 2H2O

For preparation of 100.00g of sodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate-ferrate(III) а 101.41g of eDTA-Na2 dihydrate, 73.64g of iron(III) chloride hexahydrate and 21.79g of sodium hydroxide is required.

Add to the flask with EDTA-Na2 solution a hot sodium hydroxide and iron(III) chloride solution with stirring.

Target compount precipitates from hot solution as small brown crystals or powder.

Keep in its original form or under several layers of varnish at average humidity and room temperature. Do not keep crystals near heaters.
